Jean-Luc visited Brazil for the first time
in 2002 and fell in love with the country, the lifestyle and
the people. He returned in 2003 and 2004 with the whole family.
"We wanted to show our children and experience
with them something completely different from everyday life in France"
Each year we spent 7 weeks travelling and
visiting the Brazilian coast between Salvador and Rio de Janeiro in a rented car.
"Yes all of us and our baggage did 5000kms in this rather small, two door car".
Lençois
Lencois, the tourist centre of the Chapada Diamantina region, an ancient diamond mining area.
An amazing place for walking and trekking with its Coca-Cola coloured rivers and magnificent
waterfalls.
Aracaju
This is the furthest north we have yet ventured, a real find.
A modern town with a young, educated, positive population.
An added bonus : the hundreds of Kilometres of beautiful sandy, empty beaches!
Salvador
The Africa of Brazil with its music, art and African culture, not forgetting the "Capoeira".
Itaunas
Itaunas, a lively, slightly hippy village, 25 Kilometres from Conceicao da Barra,
along an earth track.
The dune of Itaunas is impressive and leads up to a lovely,
relaxed beach predominantly visited by young people with numerous small beach cafes.
Conceição da Barra
This is not a town one would normally visit as a tourist, however our great friend Romain
and his wonderful Bed&Breakfast draw us back each year.
With the help of Romain and his family,
we enjoy several weeks of living "Brazilian style".
Domingos Martins
Domingos Martins is situated slightly in-land, not far from Victoria.
Nestled in the most magnificent hilly landscape, surrounded by coffee and banana plantations.
A great place to enjoy the many waterfalls, wonderful plants and orchids.
A real breath of fresh air!
Rio de Janeiro
Although we didn't stay long in Rio, we did take the time however to enjoy its famous Copacabana beach
and the magnificent botanical gardens.
Parati
A very pleasing find, this ancient gold-selling and commercial centre has really not changed
in the last hundred years.
Colonial style, paved streets with white and brightly-coloured buildings
are a pleasure to discover.
Great restaurants and shops although slightly expensive as they are geared towards
the tourists.
