Blueberry
- We planted our first blueberry plantation this spring, it was terrifying as April’s scorching weather threatened to kill the fragile 2 and 3 year old plants. We have installed a system of irrigation that consists of catching rain water from the wineries roofs in 4 huge tanks.
Once April had passed the wet summer settled in, the blueberries were very happy and have now all sprouted new shoots….very encouraging!
Blueberry Up-Date Autumn 2005
- The incredibly dry spring and summer and the spring hail storm definitely gave our young blueberry plants
a beating this year. They will need some tender, loving care this autumn. We realised that any future blueberry
plantation will definitely need some irrigation or at the least very serious mulching as the dry season
this year really knocked them sideways. This autumn we will prune them and take some cuttings for re-planting
in spring.
Blueberry Up-Date Autumn 2006
- After loosing two plants to bad tractor driving on the part of Jean-Luc and one
to drought, the remaining plants looked very sad and bedraggled after their first year here. However this spring they have been heavily
mulched, pruned and weeded and are now looking much happier. When pruning we took some cuttings to reproduce the plants, the percentage
that have taken is very small.
Decanter World Wine Awards
- We are very happy to have won a commended medal for our first wine entered into this prestigious wine tasting
competition for “Les Charmes” 2003, this has given us the confidence to continue to present our wines
to a larger audience.
Le Point ‘Vin Special’
We were also pleased to be picked out by Le Point magazine’s yearly wine review for our "Cuvée" Prestige 2000
"A wine that is starting to develop aromas of Pinot Noire/Burgundy; grilled, animal, Gamay with length on the palate,
velvety. Ideal with ‘coq au vin’. (Translated from Le Point September 2005)"
Hail storms in May
- Violent hailstorms in May destroyed a large percentage of this years crop. Although the grapes were not yet formed,
the young shoots and flowers were destroyed and the vines failed to produce a second generation of fruit bearing branches.
The appellations Beaujolais Villages and Chiroubles on the higher ground were the worst hit and we will not be producing
either of these "cuvées" in 2005.
Harvest 2007
- As usual we were the last to harvest in the region, this year everything was on our side, the sunny weather that we had been waiting for all summer eventually arrived 10 days before we began harvesting! Although the yields were quite normal, after a rigorous selection these were reduced by a quarter.
The vinification, without S02 went extremely well due to very good natural yeasts this year… (so good we have even been making bread with them) all in all 2007 for us looks very promising!!
Les Rendez-Vous Beaujolais
- The third edition of “Rendez-Vous Beaujolais” will take place in 2008. This is a professional
wine fair to enable buyers, agents and trade visitors to discover what’s happening and taste the wines from the ten Beaujolais Crus.
We will have a stand with the appellation Morgon in the ‘caveau’ of Villié-Morgon.
